About Me

cartoon of me
I’m Sarai, I’m a Med Tech/Pre-Med student from Alaska and far and away the geekiest person I know. My interests include Linux/open source software, video games, writing, American Sign Language and medicine. I love using Linux and having to think on my feet to create workarounds to the little bugs I encounter on a daily basis. My primary reason for starting this blog is to write about fixes I have found for common problems in Ubuntu for which solutions aren’t always easy to find.

My computer is an HP Pavillion tx2000z with a 160GB HD, 2GB RAM, and a nVIDIA geForce graphics card. I run Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04) with a 20GB WinXP virtual machine.

  1. Hi Sarai,

I am brand new to the ubuntu world and I have used your method to allow me to use lightscribe. Everything seems to work until I go to print. My drive or media is not recognized. Any ideas you may have would be greatly appreciated. I am sure I screwed something up, but your directions were easy to follow.
    Thank you Sarai,
    Dennis

    • I had the same problem when I was setting mine up. The issue is most likely a missing C++ library called “libstdc++5”.

Open up a terminal and type sudo apt-get install libstdc++5 which will download the necessary dependencies. Restart the LaCie software and you should be good to go. I sent you this in an e-mail as well- let me know if this fixes your problem.
